About this Writer

I’m an über organised wife of one, mother of two and human to a demanding Shih Tzu. I’m also a self taught writer trying not to humiliate myself in front of real life people.

I burn the midnight oil to practice my craft while the house is silent and the brain is still whirring. Some of the less terrible results are published on the Flash Fiction section of my site. I encourage critique of these for both improvement and added mortification, please contribute to whichever you see fit.

This blog charts my journey from creative writing novice to wherever I end up. I’m hoping this will be somewhere I can help other newbies just as you’re all helping me. On my way there, I will become a great proficient at ignoring my children and mounting housework in favour of the colourful world in my head. This blog will either become my autobiography or evidence for social services, either way, I’ll be glad to have you along for the ride.

Thanks for stopping by, I look forward to meeting you in the comment boxes!

Nicola xx

  3. Hi Nicola

Could I send you my debut book for review?

It is the first part of a thrilling series, with 60 chapters each set in real time taking the reader 1 minute to read (hence Sixty Minute Reads series)

It is available on Kindle Unlimited or paperback here, but I am able to email you a PDF version if you’d prefer?

“Holly Holloway is locked in a dusty room, strapped to a ticking bomb.

What would you do, if you only had one hour left to live?”

    Thank you for your time

  14. Excellent about page. You have writing talent since you took something as boring as that and made it interesting. (That is not to say you are boring). It will be a pleasure to follow your journey. My journey to publication has been challenging. Let use where yours takes you. Best of luck and keep writing.

    • Thank you, I think the about page followed after an inordinately long time spent staring at the blinking cursor. I tried to come up with something grown up and literary but failed. What you see there now is the spur of the moment result, I think I like it much better.

Thanks for dropping by and looking through my blog, new friends are always welcome here. Please come back anytime and bring knowledge and advice in spades, I’m always listening!

      • Yeah, grown up and literary didn’t work for me either. well that spur of the moment was a good one. I will return often. Love following other writers. This community of writers constantly creating, motivation, and inspiring. We need to feed off one another.

Very lovely blog – nice prose and I wonder how many edits it had before it was perfect? I re-write blogs for whole days that pass by me with a demanding Squeezely (cat), three generations of brood and extended members unaware that I’m still a living member because all I do is write. It’s a drug. Very pleased to meet you and to read your creative work.

    • Thank you for the compliments, I try to be anonymous in my house but the family keeps finding me.

I don’t tend to edit too much as I don’t have time but I do return to published items and tweak them often. I’m thinking of improving this practice though to save dire bouts of embarrassment.

  36. Your writing is very alive…I wish I could burn the midnight oil!!! I can’t function after dinner time…but I am up at the crack of dawn…actually hours before the crack of dawn, pursuing my artistic endeavors…I love a silent house too!!! I just need a nap first…

    • I love the silence of the house in the early morning, there’s nothing like it, but I’m usually still napping myself! I’d love to be a functioning human at dawn, I could write, go for a run, take the dog for a walk … who am I trying to kid?
