And the winner of this week’s Six Word Story Challenge is…

six word story challenge, micro fiction, 6 word story, prompt, writing, #amwriting

Evening Storytellers,

How’s things? Dandy? Jolly good.

This week seems to have gone on forever, I had a daily sinking feeling that I’d forgotten to write this post, but then was redeemed by it merely being Mon/Tues/Weds or Thurs.

This week (an awful long time ago) I left you the prompt of speech. Whilst extremely timely since it was Donald Trump’s inauguration (*shudder*), it wasn’t actually planned to reflect on this but I’m glad it did. You all seem to have some strong feelings about it.

Anyway, before I announce the winners I wanted to let you know that tomorrow you will notice some shiny new Six Word Story Challenge branding. It is still heart shaped (because I love the challenge) but will be a different colour and feel, so watch out for it popping up in your reader. There will also be some new badges for you to upload if you are voted as the winner too!

I also wanted to ask for your help in promoting the challenge on your blog or social media tomorrow. I love this challenge and I want to share it widely, I think writers getting to practice the skill of succinct storytelling is a good thing and more of us should practice it. What do you think – will you help me out and share the new challenge tomorrow? Pretty please?

And so to this week’s winners;

First place:

kirstwrites with her story

‘He divided the world.
Us. Them.’

Second place:

bisimodupe1975 with her first ever six word story ‘She stuttered seeing her missing daughter…’

Third place:

patricksponaugle with his story ‘I had things to say. Didn’t.’

Until next time,

Nicola x

  1. Hi guys, a newbie here, is there a theme each week? Where do I post my entry (if I can work up the courage?)

    • Hi there,

First, welcome to the challenge. I set a new challenge every Saturday morning (9am UK time) by giving you a one word prompt. The challenge runs until 10pm the following Friday.

To enter, you just post your six word story in the comments. Everyone who visits the page over the week will like their favourite stories. The story with the most votes over the week is declared the winner.

You can find the story challenge here:

      https://nicolaauckland.com/category/six-word-story-challenge/

If you follow my blog you should see it pop up in your reader, I also publicise it on Twitter (@nicolaauckland) and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/SometimesStellarStoryteller.

I look forward to welcoming you to the challenge page! I link to one of my posts each week giving a tutorial on writing six word stories which people tell me they find helpful.

      Good luck,

      Nicola x

Ah, thank you so much everyone! I fear I’ll be getting big headed… but some stiff competition this week, well done everyone. My own top choice would have to be LaRonda Moore’s “We can talk now… or later” – this conjured up all sorts of naughty thoughts, which were a pleasant diversion from That Man and That Speech.
