Welcome to December’s edition of the Stellar Review, the place where indie artists bravely subject themselves to my unqualified, yet predominantly positive, opinion.
November has been busy for those of us who participated in NaNoWriMo and since I’ve had no time to read any new novels I am bringing you another music review. This month I am ushering We Three Kings onto the reviewing stage, a male duo from Newark made up of pianist Dave Johnson and guitarist, singer, percussionist and potential octopus Ant MacAndrew. Their new single We Found The Answer is released on 1st December 2015.
The beauty of music reviewing is that you get to blag pre-release copies of the merchandise. I have been listening to We Found The Answer for a couple of weeks now and have come to realise that the simplicity of the arrangement has sucked me in. There’s a punchy acoustic guitar strumming alongside a gentle piano melody, which has jammed itself in my head and become this week’s ear worm. These two instruments are pulled together by the subtle boom of a single bass drum and the silvery jangles of an ever present tambourine.
Now, you might think from that description that you’re going to be screeched at by Florence and the Machine or dancing with flowers in your hair by sunset but don’t let that put you off, you will be treated to a smooth vocal experience from singer Ant MacAndrew and if you feel like dancing around, I’m sure they won’t stop you. The song reminds me in places of offerings from Coldplay, Bastille and Snow Patrol without the irritating vocals of Chris Martin or the need for Valium. If you’re in the mood for a softer, melodic theme to your day then you will appreciate this number. How a duo manages to make this sound is beyond me, but they do and the result is ambient and easy listening.
The single is released on 1st December and you can listen to snippets and purchase a copy on these platforms:
Remember, the point of the Stellar Review is to give much deserved support to indie artists so if you can’t buy a copy of the single, please share this review and the band’s work with your followers and encourage them to do the same.
Let’s all do our bit. Share, share, share.
Until next month, happy listening!
