Embracing ‘The Fear’

typewriter

Sometimes, I read an article and think ‘yes!’.

I read a post written by Cherie Lucas Rowlands, a writer and editor for Automattic (WordPress.com, Longreads) which talks about the ebb and flow of a writer. How opportunity, support and guidance can dictate the amount of time and importance you are able to place on improving as a writer, about the varying degrees of writing space and luxury she was afforded and how she adapted to immerse herself in this. I love to stumble across posts such as these, it’s always fascinating to read other people’s journeys as a writer. It feels voyeuristic somehow.

What resonated most was that even somebody whose writing career inspires others to blossom is still struck with ‘the fear’. Cherie tells us that ‘imposter syndrome’ follows her, even to her most successful writing workshops, and I take heart from this. Not because I am cruel or uncaring, but because when that same fear rests its chin on my shoulder I can flick it away knowing it’s just there to taunt me into doing better.

I’d love you to read this post, unfortunately, Cherie does not feature a reblog button so I have provided you with a link here.

Happy Friday Storytellers!

We made it to the end of another disorienting week in the real world, luckily for us, we can retreat into the Six Word Story Challenge for respite.

This week I left you the prompt of DECEIVER and I was expecting a plethora of tongue in cheek election stories. Luckily, you weren’t all surrounded by the miasma of gloom that us Brits were bogged down in so we had a nice mix of deceitful characters to read about. Click through to read the entries if you didn’t get chance earlier. Continue reading

She never was good at hide and seek but the stakes had never been this high before. In her current mood, I’d be a fool to underestimate her.

In response to Kat Myrman’s Twittering Tales Challenge. Can you write a story in 140 characters inspired by the above picture?
